Description
Ariane 5 is an active expendable European heavy-lift launch vehicle that is part of the Ariane rocket family. It is operated by European Space Agency (ESA). Ariane 5 is now being only operated in 1 variant: Ariane 5 ECA. The other 4 remaining variants of Ariane 5 that have been already retired are Ariane 5 G, G+, GS, ES. From 2008 to 2015 Ariane 5 ES was also used for launching 5 cargo missions to International Space Station carrying Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV). The vehicle operates out of Ensemble de Lancement Ariane 3 (Ariane Launch Area 3) at Guiana Space Centre.
